I have a female friend who has an extremely low libido and she wants to increase it. Are there any herbs or anything that could help? Any other suggestions?

Eat lots of

Sardines

& "CEVICHE"

MACA

yup, yup.

But don't buy capsules and take a few hundred milligrams.

Get it in bulk and consume multiple grams at a time.

PM me if you want to pursue this. You are in Portland and I am nearby.

I have a good amount of BULK MACA which I can offer if you are so inclined.

PS - It's good stuff for guys too.

PPS - Careful about enhanced fertility though :-)

I couldn't find Ashwaranganda. Maca sounds like the choice unless there are vegeterian alternatives to sardines and ceviche.

Finding the reason for the low libido?

Totally. I'm really amazed that you're the only person who has said this. Everyone else is sure quick to recommend medicine for something they don't know the cause of. Remind me never to seek medical advice here.

"I'm coughing....."

"Drink tea made of St.John's wart!"

"....up blood, cos I have cancer."

"Oh. Go let some Sufi guy rub fingernails on you then."

So I'm supposed to go out and find the reason why she has a low libido?

I'm not a psychiatrist.... do you think I should try my best to convince her that she needs to see one? or try my best to pretend to be one?

ehhh I think I'll get the medicine and just try to be a good friend with a heart, maybe that'll lead her to a soul search faster then me telling her to go looking.

do some reading about maca, and Ashwagandha (careful about spelling).

maca is highly nutritious mainly, and has some components which are hormone building. Really, though, do some cursory research, there is a lot to recommend maca for sex drive.

I like it, I notice it's effect on me (but I'm male, not female so my experience only counts for so much).

The research on it indicates effectiveness on fertility and libido in women.

doesn't mean this will solve the woman in question's problem, but it is certainly highly unlikely to be detrimental.

I would suggest going to a TCM doctor. NCNM has a clinic on NW Pettygrove. Outside In also offers free, need-based acupuncture. Depending on your friend's condition, acupuncture and moxibustion may be enough.

Portland is teeming with fair priced acupuncturists. Depending on who you go to they may even be able to suggest a medical qigong practice to help things along.

those to Herbs are very healing for LOW libido and are not as dangerous as other Chinese herbs for libido hence why I suggested them. Also they help your body function better not just for "sexual energy".

There is NO harm in taking those 2.

Sufi Sheik uses finger nail....TCM uses Spoon whats the difference if it works???

I read somewhere that ginseng can cure or at least help alleviate impotence for men, but I'm not sure if it has the same effect on women.

Maca works a treat and works quickly.

Not as quickly as being with someone you really fancy having sex with, though.

I think the user Witch has a book on this subject?

Yup, The Orgasmic Diet by Marrena Lindberg.

I would suggest going to a TCM doctor.

Agreed.

Though maca is fine, and the oils suggested in the above book are fine, beyond that the herbs that are appropriate per condition vary a lot. Especially for women.

Not sure if this might help for women, but it may have had an effect on me?

I was taking these supplements to clean out my arteries, but recently noticed a possible side effect of more boners (possibly due to cleaner arteries down there?).

Nattokinase is from natto.

Serratiapeptase is from enterobacteria in silkworms.

Well, these 2 powerful natural enzymes are fibrinolytic. Which means they dissolve fibrin - found in blood clots, scar and protective inflammatory tissue that also ends up stiffening and clogging up our circulatory system. Thus, reducing blood flow. Which would obviously also reduce sexual function (at least for men).

Anyhow, I think that clogged pipes are a primary contributing factor to SO MANY diseases, and so cleaning them out has a multiplied effect on our overall health! And these 2 enzymes appear to be a great way to help do that...whether they indirectly increase sexual function or not? :)

(Only time I would stop taking them though is if you are healing from a wound and NEED to allow your blood to clot, first.)

I think that she shall go to the doctor

a second opinion could be that she needs to look over her diet

Just doing any kind of sport / physical exercise can be helpful if it is done on a regular basis.

Just because it was not mentioned yet:

Damiana

Either taken as tea (quickly prepared, just have the leafs up to 10 minutes in hot water) or as liquor (said to be more potent, but also needs longer preparation).

In both cases, it needs to be taken over a period of time (for instance 2 weeks or 1 month) until benefits show up.

There are a whole bunch of different medication on the market that actually are supposed to make woman's periods last shorter, or have fewer of them (not every month). A there are many of them that CAN cause females sex drive to go down drastically. There are also other medications that do that too. I'd recommend to see a qualified doctor about it first.

(It really happens to a lot of women. Its really sad when medication can change our bodies so much. Especially for how it can change sex drives in men and women. To me that just doesn't sound right. Kind of defeats the purpose of those medications. Problem is it hasn't turned into an exact science but still the medical treats patients with medication and ends up making errors. Maybe to some degree it should be done in a way that is more comforting. Or maybe not.)

(I'm not claiming its a tragedy. I'm simply claiming that because of the use of medication that's supposed to help the person ends up dictate what they feel like instead of what the person decides what they want.)
