If anyone is wondering why I'm the only egomaniac with the bigger avatar now it's because I just checked out the bandwidth usage and we can handle bigger avatars no problem ... let me know if it slows things down for anyone, especially users on dialup or something. Also, remember ... there is always the Lo-Fi Version of The Tao Bums that is always pretty zippy. smile.gif

I added a custom field to the database so now everyone can add their own titles beneath their avatars. Woo hoo... Up at the top right click on My Controls, then on the left menu click on Edit Profile info, then at the very top put whatever you want in the Custom member title field and it will show up under your avatar.

I await in horror at what this unleashes. biggrin.gif

Sean,

This seems to be working rather strangely. For example, take a look at the thread with my birthday wishes. When I look at this, here is what I am seeing for member titles:

Sean - Faux Hawk
Lozen - Plank Geek
TwoTrees - Tao Wizard - with a line at the bottom of the block below the avatar that says Life's Eternal Servant (probably the custom title she posted)
DaoWaDiddy - Tao Master - with a line at the bottom of the block below the avatar that says Marxist (definitely the custom title I posted).

Is there some difference in personal profile that is driving this?

Enquiring minds want to know...

Charlie

That was wierd. There was the same custom field in two places that you could update. One would update the top title as Lozen and I did, the other would update the title at the bottom, as you and TwoTrees did. I removed the latter. Try it again. This time go to My Controls>Edit Profile and edit that top field that says "Custom member title". Should do the trick. smile.gif

When I go to My Controls>Edit Profile info there is not a field that says "Custom member title" on the page that comes up. In the box labelled "Your personal profile, this section is optional" I see the following entries:

Your Date of Birth
Your website url
Your ICQ UIN
Your AOL identity
Your Yahoo identity
Your MSN Messenger identity
Your Location
Your Interests

Also, FWIW I am not seeing an avatar for you right now. Is this an expected result?

Charlie

sean
Charlie, this is really strange. I'll have to look into this more when I have a bigger block of time. So you are saying you can't see my avatar anymore at all? huh.gif

That's right.

If you look right above "Faux Hawk" you will notice that there is no <IMG> tag for your avatar.

In fact, in this thread Cameron shows no avatar either - mine shows and that's it.

This is not the case for other users in other threads. In the "my birthday" thread referenced above I get avatars for both Lozen and TwoTrees.

Does it look different to you?

The light just may have dawned! dry.gif

Can you send me the IMG tag (quoted as code) for your avatar?

I'm suspecting that Norton Security is being too helpful and the Ad Blocker is triggering on something in the tag.

I'll let you know.

Charlie
DaoWaDiddy
Sean,

Did you take some action to change your avatar? I can see it now and wanted to know if it was because I turned off Ad Blocker or if you did something...

Charlie
sean
Nope, I haven't done anything at all yet. Are you seeing the avatars ok now? That is really strange that Norton or whatever would block an avatar. And so sneaky, pre-emptively snipping the <img> tag right out of the source like that. Crazy.

Are you able to see the "Custom member title" yet? Under "Edit Profile info" I see:
Custom member title
Your Date of Birth
Your website url
Your ICQ UIN
etc
etc

Thanks,
Sean.
DaoWaDiddy
I have ad blocker off and as far as I can tell I am seeing all the avatars - it gets more interesting as some people haven't selected avatars...

I still am not seeing "Custome member title"
sean
I just figured it out. It won't let you enter a custom member title until you've gone through all the "ranks" via post count.

Let's come up with something more creative than the stupid ranks I thought up in like 2 seconds when I first installed this software. Here is the way they are now:

Member, -1
Tao Master, 25
Tao Addict, 40
Tao Wizard, 65
Tao Bum!, 100

I was thinking instead of making it not so difficult to enter a custom title. As it is now you have to have 100 posts to be able to edit your title. Maybe we could make the top rank 50. The # of posts per rank is completely arbitrary. So whatever we come up with. This is REALLY exciting. HOT topic. rolleyes.gif Just realized how incredibly dorky this conversation I am starting is. But whatever, let's think up new ranks. laugh.gif
