Full Version: Kunlun Variations

I've noticed that I still get the leg bouncing, body movements and then the warm permeating mist/heat after-feeling, if I skip the KL1 postures and go right to the closing down meditation, while I'm focusing on the energetic feelings I remember from my initial KL1 session.

I'm new at KL1 but I had a very strong initial reaction to the practice described in Pillars of Bliss. I've tested this variation at various times in the last few days and I've had a consistent response. As I type this, I can focus on that particular energy and make the decision to allow or not allow the energy to express itself. The more I am able to focus on that energetic feeling, the stronger the response.

The more I do this with a letting go/accepting attitude, the stronger the typical Kunlun motions are, almost as if the Kunlun1 feet/hand posture tunes into an energetic potential that is always there in my body, and I can access that energetic potential. The feeling of letting go/allowing seems to be the key. It will be interesting to see what happens with this over time.

For me it seems as if the KL1 postures acted as an initiation that allowed me to identify the energy that is already there. When I can feel that energy, and focus on it (without the postures), the results seem to be the same. Your mileage may vary.

Has anyone else had this experience?
Yoda
there were certainly people at the Phoenix workshop who didn't need the posture in the slightest to tune into it.

Once you have opened the Kunlun energy, you can call it up at will. Postures are no longer necessary.

Visualising the posture helps also in my case with accesing the energy spontanious. I imagine a black background and white skeleton/stickfigure in kunlun 1 posture (witouth a chair) wich you imagine 3dimensional so you can see it from all sides .. the focus is purely on the lines wich contain the root of the kunlun 1 posture smile.gif

Dunno this helped me so i thought lets write it down on TTB tongue.gif

Also found out the image of certain deities have unconventional effects.

I've done that a bunch of times (raising heels during it when it feels proper) as an 'opening' sort of meditation before assuming the L1 posture; I've found the L1 has been more energetic (shaking, mostly) when I do so.

So thats how the dual cultivation works, cool.

But. Need to tell a story.

While I always follow the no drugs and beer rule before Kunlun I do like some thc at the end of the day. I love to listen to music and I tend to move around in my chair, like Stevie Wonder, when I really get into the swing. My friends love to watch me when I do this as I’m told I look quite amusing.

Well last night I was enjoying myself in the middle of a song when I realised,
“Oh Sh!t, this feels just like Kunlun”
Exactly the same blissful feeling and mindless movement that I get when practicing.

Really panicked me, as I’ve had some rather dire warnings not to Kunlun under the influence. Felt a bit of energy in my head and didn’t really know what to do. So I concentrated on my belly and tried to remain positive. I settled down after a few minutes.

Everything feels o.k. no bad effects or anything but I do feel a bit worried as I really do enjoy “relaxing” and letting everything go.

Should I

1. Sit back, be happy and continue not paying attention smile.gif
2. Do the closing if I feel blissful at the “wrong” times.
3. Try not to feel blissful
(difficult and counter to why I’m enjoying myself in the first place)
4. Live in fear of setting myself on fire (figuratively)

Thanks

Don't ever panic. Just allow the energy to flow.

You will create something bad if you believe it to be.

Nothing horrible will happen to you, unless you push it too far.

Just think, "relax and open" and allow the emptiness of your larger self to come fully into your body.

I loves me some thc, but its starting to get to the point where I feel clouded for a day perhaps two after tokin up. feels like it hinders my practice. takin some time off, then mayyybe back to once a week or so after I feel somewhat cleansed. I used to be an everyday pothead for yeeeeeeeeeeeeears.....
yeah mal, definitely dont panic or worry. I've done kunlun ~6 hours afterwards (try to stay away from doing it even that close, though) and had kunlun feel a little different, but if energy rises or opens up more or differently, relaxing and controlling it is key. good call in bringing it back down w/ closedown posture.

try a different "brand" something with less indica or just go pure sativa.

Yes, not useful before practice. Stuffs up my Chi Gungs if I'm still feeling the effects, best as an end of the day thing IMO. Really only useful for fun, pain relief, and playing Tai Chi and Kung Fu every few months just to see how relaxed and fast I can really be, oh and did I mention it’s FUN.

Anyhow it is also a VERY strong de-motivator. Another book I loaned out and didn't get back said in Chinese medicine terms it stimulates kidney yin (I think) and makes you uninterested / unable to change anything (no Yang to “motivate” yourself)

So not recommended if you are still trying to do something / improve your life. I'm lucky in that I'm happy with what I have, and the few little issues I do have are greatly helped by this and the side effects are easly manageable.
